Naughty Dog's Crash Bandicoot was once a mascot for PlayStation before the studio's acquisition by Sony. The rights to the franchise eventually ended up with Activision which hasn't touched the series in years but could Crash be set for a return?
Speaking to The Telegraph on Saturday, Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Andrew House commented "This is very dangerous ground," presumably referring to the fact that Sony does not own the rights to the franchise. "In concept, it is something we've been thinking about and discussing, and this is a shift for us.
"We've started to say that maybe there isn't anything wrong with going back and looking at characters that people still talk about, that were a big part of either their childhood or their youth. I definitely wouldn't close the door on that."
Spyro, created by Insomniac Games and another former PlayStation mascot, was instrumental in starting Activision's hughly popular Skylanders' series but the last time Crash Bandicoot was seen on console was 2008's Crash: Mind Over Mutant for PS2, PSP, Xbox 360, Wii, and Nintendo DS.
There was some speculation that Sony had acquired the Crash IP in November of last year but Sony's Adam Boyes commented, "Activision owns the IP so you should ask them about it"
House says that game he is most looking forward to at the moment is The Order: 1886 from Ready at Dawn and Sony Santa Monica which releases on PS4 next year.
