After years in development, Firefall finally has an official release date. Launching on July 29 for the PC, Firefall will exit its long-running open beta to have an official launch with all new content tuned for high-level characters.
Red 5 Studios’ free-to-play title was revealed in 2010 and originally planned for a 2011 release. Bogged down by numerous delays and in some cases complete overhauls. The studio has since told Polygon that it has halted its tour of community events and trade shows to focus on finishing the game.
"We made a very conscious decision: we need to focus, go heads down, go radio silent for a little bit and make sure we can deliver a kick-ass experience to our players at launch, and that's what we've been doing," Red 5 CEO James Macauley said.
When the game is released, it will include new PvP-focused content for high level players. Players will be able to harvest resources and fight against monsters while simultaneously defending their plots against enemy players looking to destroy their harvesters and claim their territory.
