On June 16, Square Enix filed a trademark for Final Fantasy Explorers with the US Patent and Trademark Office. The following day, the company did the same with the Office for Harmonization of the Internal Market in Europe. This suggests that the upcoming 3DS role-playing game will arrive on Western shores, likely some time after its Japanese debut.
This isn't the only Final Fantasy that Nintendo's handheld is set to receive in the near future. You may recall that Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call is scheduled for a September 16 release in the US. While that is a rhythm game that celebrates the series' musical history, Explorers is an action RPG in the vein of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles or Capcom's Monster Hunter. You'll be able to choose your characters' jobs from a list that includes familiar roles like Black Mage, White Mage, Dragoon, and so on, and you can even team up with three friends over Wi-Fi for online questing.
Final Fantasy Explorers doesn't have a set release date yet, but we do have a gallery of fresh screenshots from the new 3DS adventure. These screens heavily feature Ifrit, the familiar fire-based summon from Final Fantasies past.
