Nintendo Releases Two New Mario Kart 8 Commercials

May 19, 2014 by Ian Miles Cheong

Two new ads for Mario Kart 8 have been released.

No stranger to making cool commercials, Nintendo of America has put together two new TV ads for their upcoming kart-racing title, Mario Kart 8.

One of the ads focuses on the ability to drive up and down waterfalls in the upcoming game, while the other showcases the Piranha Plant power-up.

Driving near an opponent or coin not only makes the Piranha Plant reach out and eat them, it also gives players a speed boost when it retracts into its pot.

This powerful power-up works in a similar way to the star power-up, but comes with its own strengths and weaknesses. Thanks to its long reach, players will not have to drive directly into opposing players to damage them. However, it doesn’t make them entirely invulnerable as they are still susceptible to attacks from behind.

Mario Kart 8 will be out on May 30 for the Wii U.
