Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has released a new trailer of Monolith’s upcoming Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor, which showcases the game’s gameplay mechanics and rune system.
The trailer follows the Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor reveal footage that got a lot of people talking about the game and wondering about its inspirations—i.e. it looks a lot like Assassin’s Creed.
As far as the game’s mechanics go, runes add buffs to the protagonist Talion’s weapons and can be combined to create new effects. There are also epic runes that can be crafted or looted to add significant effects on any item imbued with them.
For pre-order bonuses, players who purchase the game ahead of its release will receive rune packs. Everyone who orders the game will get the Deadly Archer Rune, which increases damage caused by ranged headshots. GameStop customers will receive the Captain of the Watch costume skin and Hidden Blade rune, which improves stealth strikes, meanwhile Best Buy pre-orders will contain the Flame Arnor Rune, which adds a fire element to Talion’s weapon. Steam bonuses include the Orc Slayer Rune, which boosts the effectiveness of Talion’s special attacks.
All pre-orders will include the Dark Ranger bonus pack, which features a new costume and new challenge mode.
The game is out on OCtober 7 for the PS3, PS4, WIndows PC, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
