Nintendo has revealed a new partnership with Gamestop, to bring Mario Kart 8 demos to select brick-and-mortar locations this coming May 17 and 18. You can see if the game is coming to a GameStop near you here.
Nintendo and Gamestop are serious about getting people to pre-order the game too. Everyone who preorders via the retailer gets an exclusive double sided poster. Furthermore, PowerUp Rewards pro members get 40 % extra credit for trading in any games or accessories to get the game.
Gamestop is also running their own special social promotion on Twitter. If you tweet about your favorite Mario Kart memories using the hashtags #MarioKartMemories #promo, you get a chance to get a $ 100 gift card, or even better, a Mario Kart 8 Wii U Deluxe Set.
On the side, Nintendo has revealed new information on why Battle Mode is not getting new maps. It turns out this is a deliberate design decision, which makes us curious why the press who received advance copies didn’t notice.
The way the new Battle Mode works is that there will be 12 players, including some CPU racers. The tone of the game will actually shift midway, since you’ll start out taking out CPU racers for points, until it comes down to human players. The way the mode is set up now, cooperative and competitive modes appear in the same race.
We’ll leave you now with this new commercial that recently popped up on Cartoon Network. Mario Kart 8 is revving up for a May 30 release on Wii U.
