Is the PlaystationWatch Dogs page, saying too much, or assuming too much? We go through the page’s assertions and implications below.
So, Sony confirms that the game is running in 1080p, 60 FPS. While we’ve heard of other PS4 games claim this and fall off the mark, it still has some clout, since it is widely believed PS4 is capable of hitting these landmarks (with online play taken into account).
However, the page goes further to say that it has the best graphics of any console. This would imply that the Playstation people have seen the versions of the game coming to other consoles and verified that theirs is the best. Or have they?
While hitting these benchmarks would seem impressive on paper, there are other factors to gaming graphics that affect how well a game looks – and plays. Playstation 4 versions of games have come up as best performing graphics wise for several 8th gen exclusive and multiplatform games, but that’s no guarantee that it will be the same for Watch Dogs. Still, if Ubisoft's own devs are excited about the console's power, Sony may simply be pointing out the easily predictable.
In any case, this may just as much be a case of hype on Sony’s part. We’re sure to get word back from the graphics freaks if Sony’s claims hold up. Watch Dogs is coming May 27 to Windows, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One, and this fall to Wii U.
