NBA 2K15: MVP Kevin Durant Is 2K15’s Cover Athlete

May 11, 2014 by Ryan Parreno

Also, we ‘ve learned new details on 2K’s tech partners that could mean a much improved NBA2K series in general.

We have fresh details for NBA 2K15 which we’re sure you are going to enjoy. We’re taking you behind the scenes of how the facial capture was made for the game, and, we reveal this year’s cover athlete.

But really, Kevin Durant is no surprise, coming off perhaps the greatest year ever in his career. He averaged 35.9 points per game, scoring over 30 points in 12 straight games, and raised an unprecedented 54 points in a single game against the Golden State Warriors. He also received this accolade not long after becoming NBA’s MVP for 2014. We’ve always known he’s one of the game’s finest stars, and now he gets a chance to shine on his own. In videogame form. You can check out the preview image below.

Our second tantalizing piece of news is regarding the tech 2KGames is using for the latest installment of their game. The company has revealed a new partnership with Faceware Technologies Inc.

Faceware Tech specializes in making facial motion capture technology, particularly easy to use technology for creative types, like makers of games and video games. They already announced an earlier collaboration with Bungie to cover the facial capture for Destiny, and they most recently unveiled new technology, in collaboration with Binari Sonori, that will capture voiceover with that video capture together. While our source seems convinced this will mean a lot for realistic graphics, I believe the real revelation here pertains to easier development.

Saving time, and making overall development easier, means 2K’s devs can spend more time developing and polishing the game overall, and so this could mean a better overall experience for the 2K series in all aspects.

NBA 2K15 arrives October 7, for Windows, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
