Super Smash Bros: Sakurai Unveils The Return Of The Dragoon

May 9, 2014 by Ryan Parreno

The item retains its collect-three-parts provision, but received a small update to the targeting screen.

Sakurai’s screenshots of the day have an exciting revelation. The Dragoon makes its return to Super Smash Bros, for Wii U and 3DS.

The Dragoon is literally a game changer in Smash competitive play. Players need to find the three pieces of the Dragoon to assemble and enable it. Once that’s done, said player’s character goes off screen and gets to go after the other players using the Control Stick. The Dragoon fires shots that takes as much as 42 % damage, almost always guaranteeing a one hit KO.

Avoiding the Dragoon’s fire is possible, but very difficult. So, if it comes into play, it’s better for players to fight for control of the pieces. You can swipe pieces from other players, and if a player gets KO’d, they lose all pieces they had automatically.

For those unaware with the item’s origin, it comes from Kirby’s Air Ride. It is one of the legendary vehicles and is famous in its own game for its ability to fly.

Sakurai shared two pics this time to give justice to the reveal. The 1st more pragmatic image shows a player using the Dragoon to shoot other characters off. The targeting screen has been completely redesigned, with the fiery reds giving other players a sense of their impending annihilation. The cool thing for 3DS owners is this will output in stereoscopic 3D.

Of course, Sakurai then felt compelled to share a pic of the Dragoon itself, which you can see below.

Looks like a fun item which you won’t get to use in ‘For Glory’ mode, but this is not the space to talk about that. Super Smash Bros for 3DS is coming this Summer, while Super Smash Bros for Wii U arrives Winter this year.
