Nintendo has announced Pokemon Ruby and Pokemon Sapphire remakes Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire for release on 3DS and 2DS devices in November.
Following on from the precedent set by Pokemon X/Y, the games will be made available worldwide rather than as part of a staggered release which was the case when previous Pokemon games, including the original Ruby and Sapphire, launched.
Check out the trailer below.
Nintendo's video shows no gameplay and it's unknown at this point whether the games will be the 3D design of X/Y or be a reworking of the original graphics. Also not yet revealed is whether X/Y changes such as the addition of mega evolution or swarms will feature in the remakes although the former feature does appear to be hinted at in the trailer.
Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire were released in 2003 and brought players to the Hoenn region; a follow-up, Emerald, launched a year later. Nintendo and Game Freak have previously remade the first and second generation Pokemon games so this news isn't too surprising even if it's overdue for many fans.
The announcement follows Nintendo's revelation earlier today as part of its fiscal results that Pokemon X/Y are the best and fastest selling 3DS games to date, achieving sales of 12.26 million games between them to date.
Nintendo also announced that sales of the 3DS family of handhelds 44.3 million of which 2.2 million are 2DS devices.
