Hey, have you ever dreamt of just quitting on your day job, just like that, and go out to live out your dreams? What if those dreams involved playing video games everyday?
That’s precisely what Royce “Bubbadub” Newcomb did. In fact, he gave up a secure engineering job to play League of Legends professionally. And his wife gave him 6 months to make money out of it.
To be fair though, this isn’t one of your everyday gamers. Bubba is a very talented player, having won in the North American Challenger League last December 2013. At this point, he was definitely one of the top 50 players in the US. He was a dedicated player too, having used his own house (in that 6 month time frame) as the home of his team, Determined Gaming.
He didn’t make this choice out of nowhere either. This was one of the many steps Determined Gaming took to bring it to the next level. His fellow players have worked hard to get there, with Westrice busting his chops in the scene for years, and Brokenshard moving back to Israel. This was Bubbadub’s way of stepping up.
And clearly, it paid off. 10 months after quitting, Determined Gaming’s members have been incorporated into complexity Black, finally making them pros.
And his wife? Clearly, she loves every minute of it as much as he does.
You can tell, they’re husband and wife, right? I’m sure you can. You can read the whole story here.
