Playstation has shared an eight minute video of gameplay for Turtle Rock Studios’ upcoming monster hunter shooter / monster sim Evolve.
The video does a very good job of showing how the four hunters versus one monster scenario plays out. As is clear, one of the players can ever feel secure, since the situation can change at any time.
Of course, the game starts with the monster at a disadvantage, but it has a good chance of getting away from the hunters. The situation slowly changes as it levels up and pushes toward evolution. Actually, whatever the scenario, the monster benefits from constantly being on the move. By foraging and eating wildlife, it can keep leveling up, and occasionally attacking the hunters will break up their plans.
Cooperative play for the hunters is truly on the methodical side. If I could make any comparison to anything people are familiar with in real life, it would be like a football team strategizing how to take the star running back from the opposing team. Everyone has tools, but without a proper game plan or synergy it’s not going to work.
Evolve is proving to be a truly unique experience, and could be a fun game even if you’re not that much good at shooters, if you stick to playing the monster side. Evolve is coming to Windows, Playstation 4 and Xbox One somewhere between July and September of this year. Check out the gameplay trailer below.
