Ever wish you could turn your phone into a proper gaming device without the need for an unwieldy controller attachment? Well, there’s Project Ara.
First things first, Project Ara is a new concept phone by Motorola for Google that basically allows phone manufacturers to produce any number of weird specialty components to be fitted onto the core Android device. It’s a modular phone, in other words.
To that end, an engineer going by The Aether Technician (Samuel Herb) has put together a concept for something called the Flippypad, that’s designed to work with Project Ara as a modular video game controller. Check it out:
It has an L and R button, a D-Pad, two flat joysticks like those found on the 3DS, and an ABXY diamond. It’s also “large enough to house a good amount of extra battery, too.”
Assuming Project Ara becomes a reality, we may very well be getting our hands on something like this to play games on the Android-powered device.
