We have new information for Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Revolution. At long last, we get our first look at Shisui’s Susanoo, as designed by the series creator himself, Masashi Kishimoto.
If you may remember, we just covered Shisui’s entry, and his known backstory, earlier this month. Shisui’s appearances in the manga and anime have left a cloud of mystery in a big amount of that backstory, so learning that he even has a Susanoo is quite the revelation.
What is a Susanoo, you may ask? Some may recognize that name from Persona, or if you know actual Japanese myth, Susanoo, the god of the sea and storms. In the world of Shinto myths and legends, Susanoo is remembered as both for his petty squabble with his sister Amaterasu, and the subsequent banishment leading to his slaying of the eight headed dragon, the Yamata no Orochi. Susanoo and his friends and family have been fertile inspiration for Japanese media, including manga, anime, and video games alike.
In Naruto lore, the Susanoo is similar to the Harry Potter universe’s Patronus. It is an ability available to ninjas who have the Mangekyo Sharingan. We don’t want you to get lost in the lore too much, but know that it creates a gigantic humanoid guardian figure that surrounds the ninja who uses it. It is one of the most powerful abilities to ninjas with the Mangekyo Sharingan, and as a consequence, using it dissipates the user’s life.
It looks like Shisui will be a major figure in this new game, among the 100 playable characters it will have available. You can expect Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Revolution Fall 2014 for Windows, Xbox 360, and PS3.
