Titanfall Smart Pistol MK5 Guide

April 10, 2014 by Ryan Parreno

The MK5 is not necessarily a popular gun, but it can work very well for you if you leverage its capabilities.

This is a guide on how to use the Smart Pistol MK5 in Titanfall. This assumes you are playing with the pistol after the patch.

The pistol does 67 damage while locked on, 50 in free fire. There is no dropoff to damage when the range changes. You can kill an enemy pilot with three shots locked on, four free fire. When the enemy is using STIM, that goes up to four shots to kill, with a possible fifth on free fire.

So, let’s get down to brass tacks. The MK5 is one of the most contentious guns in the game. Some players think it’s too easy to use, while others point out the long lock-on time is a serious handicap. As a result, the gun is way too good in some situations, and very inadequate in others.

As it turns out, the pistol has the slowest time to kill of any weapon in the game. This takes into account the amount of time for even the minimum of three lock ons to load. This does not mean you have to be a constant sitting duck or play camper. On the contrary, you have to be in constant motion, possibly doing the dance of death, strafing left and right over and over. You can also be wall running, wall bouncing, bunny hopping, anything that will make you a difficult target.

While you are moving, you want to be constantly within firing range of an enemy so that you can get a lock on them. This hinges on the hopes they don’t themselves find a way to hide behind a lightpole  or something like that.

As a result, this gun is not that skill intensive, compared to other guns that prioritize good aim. What it is is a good beginner’s gun, teaching you to master parkour, fast movement, essentially, the basic skills that you need to learn for Titanfall.

What about cloak and silencer gameplay? It would work, but it’s not a smart use of the smart pistol’s capabilities.

As for recommended class?

  • Enhanced Targeting is a must have.
  • Extended Mags / Silencer are useless.
  • Wingman is OK, but not recommended.
  • RE45 Auto Pistol is recommended.
  • Charge Rifle is recommended.
  • Satchels and Arc Grenades are recommended.
