Sony has confirmed The Last Of Us is coming to the Playstation 4, during a Playstation event in Turkey.
If you may remember, Naughty Dog has been getting questions if such a port was in the works since March of last year. Back then, they flat out turned it down, but this December, they said something along the lines of ‘We will see’.
Most recently, just last month, Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann addressed the question in detail. He points out that ND (perhaps unlike Sony Santa Monica) has limited resources, and so they choose to take on games and ports carefully. He concludes then that it is “something that we will figure out as we go along.”
The latest statement had to be translated, and does not come from Naughty Dog at all, but we know this is definitely Sercan Sulun from Sony sharing this news so it is legit.
Sercan said that The Last Of Us is coming to PS4, in both retail and digital form. This port will include the DLC, so you will be able to play Left Behind, and presumably, the other multiplayer maps and other content. Notably, Sercun said nothing about ND, so could it be a port by a 3rd party? We will see.
Sony fans seem to be more than happy to double dip, so this is mostly a good move. Yes, there is reason to complain about releasing a port so soon from the PS3 original, but if the fans want it, and the PS4 needs more games in its slate, I see no reason to object to them doing it. You know fans were going to complain if they did not.
