Skyward Sword Storyline and Gameplay Details Revealed

The recent E3 2011 allowed gamers to experience The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword for themselves on the show floor, giving them a glimpse of the game's storyline in addition to the gameplay.

In Skyward Sword, Link and Zelda live peacefully in the land of Skyloft, which exists in the clouds, high above the surface world below. At the start of the game, Link participates in a bird riding competition as a part of the annual festival, the winner would then receive a prize from Zelda. After winning his prize, Link takes Zelda out on a date and together, they soar above the clouds until disaster strikes.

A giant tornado rips Zelda from Link's grasp, forcing her down to the surface world. Link is then charged with rescuing her and receives his traditional green outfit, as well as the Skyward Sword. He dons a set of chainmail beneath his outfit, which serves as protection. He meets his spirit companion, Phi, who guides Link to the surface in his adventure.

As Link travels to the surface, he enters the Sky Temple, where he suspects Zelda is hidden. Fighting through traps and numerous enemies, Link encounters Ghirahim, the Demon Lord who rules the surface realm, who says that he is after Zelda. Link pursues Ghirahim as he makes his escape upon losing a duel.
