There’s a massive fan base for the Silent Hill franchise. We’ve always been around through the good early years of the franchise and have endured the less than stellar launches. Still, fans have felt that Konami has left the IP to go dormant and only used for brand recognition. It’s certainly left quite the depressing state for the fan base and over the past year, there’s been nothing but supposed rumors and teases of something in the works for the franchise.
Of course, nothing has come out. In the past, there’s been supposed leaks suggesting a reboot was in the works under a partnership between Konami and PlayStation. This would have been rather notable as several Team Silent members have since moved on from Konami to work under PlayStation which could have prompted Team Silent to come back in some form for this IP. Unfortunately, all we have is rumors and fans still replaying the classic titles. Again, in another bit of unfortunate news, getting access to play these games on modern hardware is just really viable. However, for those of you who don’t mind playing something that’s not official, a new fan game called Silent Hill: Respite may be of interest.
This is a Silent Hill fan game that is set in the old diner from the first Silent Hill title. From there, you can freely roam the diner which was crafted as a mod to the Amnesia: The Dark Descent video game. While the team behind the project wanted to bring out a remake of the diner area of Silent Hill, it’s also filled with little easter eggs from the first four Silent Hill video game installments. Overall, this is the title that Team Silent originally developed.
While this may not be the big Silent Hill video game announcement we were hoping to see this year, it’s still incredible work showing the passion behind this franchise. Who knows, perhaps we’ll one day see Silent Hill make a triumphant return. At the very least, I can dream about it.
