A future PlayStation 4 update will allow players to dim the DualShock 4 controller's lightbar Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida has confirmed on Twitter.
While the DualShock 4 has generally been positively received except for the short battery life which can at least partially be contributed to the lightbar. The ability to dim the light should help to extend the controller's battery life.
Yoshida announced the news when he corrected Spike TV's Geoff Keighley saying:
@geoffkeighley no, I said dim the LED, not turn off

It's unclear whether the update will be a system-wide fireware upgrade or one specifically for the controller; a feature the Xbox One offers. Sony has yet to reveal when the update will be available.
Yoshida has previously confirmed that the lightbar cannot be disabled.
