Remember last year’s SimCity? Of course you do. EA and Maxis’ city-building simulator initially required a constant internet connection, which was a move that drew the ire of the game’s dedicated community. A broken launch made the decision even less popular, causing hundreds of thousands of fans to call for a fully offline mode.
The developer said it was impossible, but today, that request is finally being granted. SimCity is currently preparing for Update 10, where players will finally be able to play the game without an internet connection. Maxis explains what that means on the EA forums.
“The new single-player mode allows you to play SimCity anytime, anywhere, without the need of an active Internet connection,” the post reads. “An Internet connection is required to download Update 10 when it becomes available on March 18, 2014. You will not require an active Internet connection to play SimCity offline in the single-player mode.
“Yes, the online game and all of its features are still intact. This includes multiplayer, SimCity World and online save games.”
If you still have a hankering to build a city all by your lonesome, SimCity will finally give you that option.
