Shigeru Miyamoto might be a little confused on what exactly a year means, as the Nintendo man is finally calling an end to Luigi’s reign. The Year of Luigi was, of course, 2013, but after an extension announced during a recent Nintendo Direct, it’s finally been confirmed that the plumber in green is stepping out of the spotlight.
Miyamoto made the official statement on the Miiverse, where he made it known that the Wii U community will soon stop accepting comments.
"Almost a year has passed since I announced the Year of Luigi, marking the 30th anniversary of Luigi's debut. Thanks to everyone's kind support, we were able to release many Luigi games over the course of the year. I hope everyone continues to cheer for the green brother!” he wrote. "However, all good things must come to an end, and the Year of Luigi will conclude on March 18.
"From this date on, the Year of Luigi Community and its Developers' Room will sadly no longer accept new posts or comments. (The exact date and time is listed in each community's description.) That means there's one more month to go. I hope everyone continues to share their thoughts on Luigi with people from around the world!”
During this wonderful year, the brother of one of gaming’s most iconic heroes was featured in Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, New Super Luigi U, Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, Super Mario 3D World, and Dr. Luigi. With Luigi’s chapter closed, we can now move on to more important things. You know, like that Year of Toad everyone’s asking for.
