Next-Generation Video Game Titles May Be More Expensive

July 2, 2020 by Dennis Patrick

Looks like there could be a potential of paying an extra $10.

2020 was a big year for the video game industry. Not only did we have plenty of anticipated video game titles releasing this year which included new IPs, sequels, to even remakes, but it was also the year of new consoles. Both Microsoft and Sony were going into 2020 with their fans expecting the next-generation platforms to release at some point this year. While the coronavirus health pandemic outbreak was something that caught everyone off guard, it doesn’t look it was enough to stop either console platform from reaching their intended release date.

Still, we’re eagerly awaiting to hear more about these consoles. We know that both the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X are coming this holiday season but we don’t know the specific release date nor do we have a price point on just how much these consoles will set us back. Despite the lack of information on just when we can get our hands on a unit, it does look like we may have some insight on the next-generation video game titles.

It looks like we could be paying $10 more with the next-generation video game titles. We’re gearing closer to $100 for a single video game as NBA 2K21 was unveiled to cost players $69.99 when it launches on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. This is due to the development studio building the game from the ground up for the new platforms. This could be a look at what’s to come across the board for other developers.

Last month it was commented by former PlayStation Head, Shawn Layden, who spoke of the rising costs development studios have to endure when it comes to each new console generation. Due to the costs to make these games, it could mean charging players even more for their video game titles. One the means to keep costs down in Layden’s eyes is simply making smaller games that wouldn’t take as much time to develop and resulting in lower costs to craft the game.
