Turtle Rock, the former Valve studio that brought the Left 4 Dead series to life, couldn’t work well under “Valve time.” The massive company that founded Steam and the Half-Life series is well known for taking its time when it comes to development, but that wasn’t the philosophy of Turtle Rock co-founder Phil Robb. He wanted to move forward with new projects, which was one of the many reasons that the team decided to shy away from the Washington-based company.
"Whenever we were working with Valve, it was kind of crazy," Robb said at a recent preview event (via Eurogamer). "They take their time, y'know? Valve time's a well-known thing, but for us it was like, ‘we want to get this shit done.’
"The culture changed a lot when we became Valve, and not all of it was what we felt was the right way to go, and it wasn't the way that we wanted to work. Once we came back out we got a lot of it back. We had most of the Turtle Rock guys who stuck with us, and for the most part that team's still with us. Our culture has changed, but I feel really good about the way things are going."
Evolve, the new game from Turtle Rock, has just received a new trailer, and is expected to look similar on both the Xbox One and PS4.
