We just learned today that Ubisoft Reflections will partner with Ubisoft Massive to develop upcoming Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC project The Division. Onlookers quickly assumed that this move meant the game was in trouble, but Reflections managing director Pauline Jacquey told Develop that this is absolutely not what’s going on.
"That's absolutely not the case," Jacquey said. "This is part of a global model that Ubisoft has been deploying in the past seven or eight years.
"It's also classic team size management. You don't want your team to be too big when you're in the initial phase of conception, when you need a lot of agility," she added. "But when you're in full production–and given that the game's scope is gigantic–it needs a big team behind it."
The Division is expected to launch later this year, but an anonymous developer from Massive was quoted saying that this release window is “laughable.” With the help of Reflections, the game might just hit its target.
