New Destiny Details: Optimized On Each Platform, A ‘Boots In The Ground’ Game

February 4, 2014 by Ryan Parreno

Community Manager David Dague shares some vague, hypey details on Bungie’s upcoming MMO shooter.

Bungie Assistant Community Manager David Dague has come up in an interview to talk about the promise and potential of its upcoming multiplatform shooter, Destiny.

David downplays the shift from Halo to Destiny, really. He talks of Destiny building on Bungie’s legacy and does not even call Halo by name. He does say that Destiny is a culmination of sorts, the kind of game Bungie has always wanted to make. He also namedrops a lot of influences that they have apparently added in into the game.

Onto more tangible things, David claims that they are focused on delivering the game to the four platforms it is planned on: Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. They claim that they are holding back more ambitious plans in the story to ensure that the initial and core experience will be good. He also claims that they have optimized the game on each of the platforms it is slated to be released on.

Regarding spaceships and space combat, they are characterized as an extension of the character. Space exploration will offer clues and open new frontiers, which may be code for they haven’t planned a lot for it yet. In the end, the only conclusion we can make is that Destiny will still very much a 'boots in the ground' game.

Regarding other questions, they think Sony fans will embrace them, they characterize the gameworld as a persistent living world, and they say they are focused on making destiny the best game they can make it in the foreseeable future.

Truthfully, there are not a lot of tangible details on Destiny yet, but there’s nothing wrong with a developer saving those details to hype it up. Destiny is set to release September 9.
