Origin, EA’s digital distribution service, isn’t going anywhere. In 2013, Origin users ended up playing games for 61 billion minutes, according to a year-in-review infographic released by EA.
Battlefield 4, Assassin’s Creed 4, FIFA 14, Need for Speed: Rivals, and a slew of other games buoyed the online service to more than 50 million users, 159 million earned achievements, and 300 million unique chat sessions. Things just keep looking up for Origin.
Steam, on the other hand, increased its overall membership by 10 million users in a matter of three months. Valve’s contribution to PC gaming, which launched in 2003, now sits at 75 million users, so EA still has a long way to go before it reaches the likes of Steam.
But, no matter which way you slice it, it’s clear that there’s a significant audience for PC gaming.
