During the Steam Dev Days conference in Seattle, Washington, Valve announced that Steam reached 75 million active users.
Back in October 2013, Valve reported the Steam active user base reaching 65 million players. In just a few months, 10 million more players now actively play games through Steam. Thanks to Steam's Autumn Sales, Holiday Sales and increasing popularity of free-to-play game, DOTA 2, Steam's player base continues to grow in all regions.
The latest DOTA 2 update significantly changed the MOBA with a new character, ranked matchmaking and changes to each Hero.
The above image breaks down the sales by region in 2013 with sales almost identical in North America and Western Europe with 40 and 41 percent. As Valve recognizes the increased player count in all regions, the newly added Steam Family Options lets friends and family share their Steam libraries.
