Double Fine Lifts Controversial Broken Age Embargo

January 14, 2014 by Josiah Renaudin

Those who have access to Kickstarter success Broken Age can now talk about it publically.

It didn’t take long for Double Fine to realize that putting an embargo on its backers wasn’t such a good idea.

Those who gave their hard-earned cash to the massively successful Broken Age Kickstarter were recently informed that once they were handed their keys to download the first part of the adventure, they weren’t allowed to review or discuss the content in too much detail. The developer made this move for the purpose of stopping spoilers from flooding the internet before the game went on sale Jan. 28, but all it did was leave a bad taste in early buyers’ mouths.

Fortunately, the well-liked developer has backtracked on this decision.

“I just wanted to write and let you know that we have decided to go ahead and lift the embargo on Broken Age reviews,” an official statement to backers reads. “The decision to set this originally was not made with any sort of malicious or controlling intent, but rather to keep spoilers to a minimum and give press time to enjoy the game, reflect on it, and write a review without feeling rushed to get it out first. However, it's clear the excitement will be difficult to contain.

“So feel free to run your reviews and let's play videos as soon as you'd like!”

The Kickstarter project should be waiting in the inboxes of those who contributed last year.
