When it comes to two-step authentications, it’s usually a good practice to use them on whatever you may have an account on. It’s just another means to secure your account and keeping a tighter privacy measure over potential hackers. As a result, most services offer a means to enable authentication though it’s usually just a bonus measure available rather than a requirement. That’s however not going to be the case for Epic Games Store, at least for a brief period of time.
It was recently announced that if you wish to claim free video games going forward until May 21, 2020, you will have to enable the two-step authentication. This is something you can do right now or you will get prompted to set up a two-step authentication when the next free game is offered and you attempt to claim a copy.
Interestingly enough, it’s not a requirement forever as it’s just a short period of time in hopes that the prompt and a few weeks is all users need to secure their accounts even further than just the standard email and password. While it’s only a matter of time before you’ll have to go through the prompt in order to get a free game, it’s likely something that most will have no problem with.
All this will do is require another step in logging in or authenticating your account such as having a message sent to your phone with a login code. At any rate, right now the Epic Games Store is offering For The King until tomorrow when the new free games will be Amnesia: The Dark Descent along with Crashlands.
