Alongside the Western release of Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch in 2013, Level-5 also introduced brand new titles such as Youkai Watch, Wonderflick, and updates to the popular Fantasy Life. When speaking with Japanese publication, 4Gamer, Level-5 explained their plans reveal something to surprise the game industry in 2014.
As Fantasy Life continues its success in Japan, Level-5 also wants to bring something entirely new to fans in 2014. Level-5 CEO, Akihiro Hino, discussed with 4Gamer the studio's intent. "In the midst of a rather sluggish consumer game industry at the moment, I believe that the industry needs a ‘new game’. We’ll try our best to make a new title that’ll surprise all of you, so please look forward to that."
