AMD has announced that the Battlefield 4 Mantle patch has been delayed to January while DICE works on fixing the game’s core issues.
In particular, DICE is working on fixing the game’s many bugs, and as such, has put an indefinite stop to game development.
As a quick refresher, Mantle is a custom API developed by AMD intended to make PCs using AMD graphics chips to reach parity with consoles. Speculation that it will have direct connections to Xbox One or PS4 APIs have been debunked. Still, AMD insists that Mantle will make PC development close enough to consoles.
This goes without saying, but of course it makes sense to delay the aforementioned Mantle patch in favor of fixing the game’s bugs first. These bugs have cost DICE and EA plenty in the past few months, and I’m sure they would want nothing more than to squash them completely and move on.
More interestingly, this places an informal timetable for said bug fixing. By implication, DICE expects that they will be able to fix the game’s problems in time to work on Mantle within the next 31 days.
