Eldritch Devs Declare Statement Against DRM

December 20, 2013 by Ian Miles Cheong

The developer of Eldritch has declared a statement against DRM and its harmful effect on games.

The makers of Eldritch, a first-person roguelike heavily inspired by the works of H.P. Lovecraft, have declared their stance against DRM in the game’s DRM-free installer.

“We believe that DRM is harmful to gaming culture and ineffective in combating piracy,” reads the statement in the license agreement. “For these reasons, we do not include DRM in our games. We ask that you respect this decision by not pirating the game. If you have obtained this copy via piracy, consider making a purchase.”

A screenshot of the license agreement can be seen below (via @zingrook).

Eldritch just saw the release of a free Christmas-themed expansion pack entitled Mountains of Madness, which contains a 10-story dungeon beneath the frozen Antarctic tundra. It also includes new weapons, tools, powers and monsters, including a penguin. Watch the trailer below.
