We have a tutorial for beginners on how to play Killzone Shadow Fall. For many PS4 owners, this is actually their first FPS, and the community could really use some tips to get multiplayer off the ground.
1st off, if you are starting out, do not pick the Scout class. Forget playing Predator, Scouts are not team players, in a game based around working as a team. One hit kills and such may look cool on paper, but teams full of Scouts tend to lose.
Many beginners, playing as Scouts also tend to prefer to camp near or at the base, making them vulnerable to quick and easy kills. And by that, I mean the entire team! You won’t get good K/D ratios playing this way as well.
Instead, get out there, play Support, win team objectives. When you get things done, it benefits you and your team, tangibly, in terms of points. Be the guy who goes out there and lays Spawn Points to get your team to win. The game actively rewards you for being that guy.
Speaking of Spawn Points, do not place Spawn Points near the base. This should be common sense; it does not help your team any and is coming from the same mindset as just sitting down and camping. Subsequently, do not place your Spawn Point at the edges of the map either. You will want to be in a position where you can best access other areas of the map. In most cases, that is the middle of the map.
Here are some smaller tips to help you out:
- You only have to jump to uncharge a weapon.
- You can get a dropkill on an enemy if you simply jump on them from a good distance. In some cases, this is even automatic, but just in case, press R3.
- Anytime you see your enemy’s Spawn Beacons, destroy them. You can always hit them with a melee attack. In fact, you’ll want to take it out 1st even when enemies are around.
- You will want to unlock scopes as soon as possible.
- If you get the minigun, you should know that it cannot do melee attacks. As soon as an enemy approaches you, switch to a pistol.
- Flanking is effective in this game, so anytime enemies seal off a certain path, try getting around them because it really works, especially against enemies using shields.
- Remember to use your abilities. It’s simply a common mistake for players to forget to use them. Medics, especially, need to remember to constantly heal their teammates.
- Remember that you can strike with automatic weapons using controlled bursts. You will want to switch shooting styles for certain situations. For example, medium range targets are easier to hit with controlled bursts, or even single fire.
- You can always take out your missile launches by hitting L1. Missiles can be useful for taking out drones and shields, so remember to use them. Missiles can even take enemies out behind shields.
- Also remember to use your pistol. Do not underestimate this gun. It’s accurate, and a good way to finish off an enemy when you run out of ammo. It is the perfect weapon to use as a last resort.
- Unfortunately, you will want to avoid using the Olympic grenades. They are accurate, but rarely kill enemies.
- When you run across turrets and shields, remember that you can disable them by getting behind them and pressing triangle. You can also get rid of petricide grenades by simply shooting the canister while it releases patricide.
- You can cook grenades, but you should not take your time holding on to them. It’s not just that they explode quickly, but also that throwing time is actually a little long. You don’t want them exploding midway to the target. In many cases, cooking is unnecessary.
- Melee combat is not very good in this game, and it may be preferable to get around it. Shoot at enemies even if you’re not targeted if you can, and then run towards them and just hit them.
- Sliding is a great skill to learn for many situations, such as getting into small places.
- Overall, you should not hesitate to change it up and switch strategies when your team is getting beaten up. The way this game plays, your opponents are unlikely to change things up either, and by being the outlier, you can use that to your advantage.
- Lastly, take the initiative, and do take advantage of situations. Don’t be a passive player, because there are too many of them in Killzone now. Think of yourself as the star player, and make your dream self turn into reality.
