Valve Index VR Headset Seems To Be Sold Out Everywhere

Jan 15, 2020 Dennis Patrick

Consumers hope it restocks in time for Half-Life: Alyx.

VR made a slight splash in the video game industry this generation of consoles and while it hasn’t become a massive mainstream gaming platform, there are certainly enough players active to warrant new video game titles along with hardware. For instance, Valve has dived into the VR industry with an HTC Vive successor known as the Valve Index and now the company is struggling to keep up with the demand.

The Valve Index didn’t release until June 28, 2019, and with it comes a headset along with controllers. However, what is really causing some people to run out and make sure their PC is VR ready along with being hooked up with the necessary hardware to enjoy VR games is Half-Life. It’s been years for fans of the franchise as they waited for the fabled Half-Life 3 title. While this is not a third mainline installment, a new Half-Life game is in the works which are being crafted for VR use.

That could be a new wave of adopters jumping into the VR platform and with Valve providing their own unique headset, it makes sense that there would be plenty of eager consumers wanting to purchase a unit. With the headset bundle also coming in at $999 the HTC Vive successor, jumping into the platform is easier said than done. If you’re wanting to take a hit on the wallet, the Valve Index is certainly an option to go with for Half-Life: Alyx. However, you may be waiting a bit for a unit as it seems that the headsets are sold out everywhere.

There is a real demand for the Valve Index and its one that it seems Valve didn’t count on. With markets around the world not able to purchase a unit, PC Gamer reached out to see what was going on. It turns out Valve really are sold out and are looking to bring out new stock soon. While there is no specific release date as to when the next shipment will hit the marketplaces, it does look like Valve will be aiming to deliver the headsets before Half-Life: Alyx drops in March of this year.
