Regular games without microtransactions and subscriptions may soon become a thing of the past, as they are poised to define the next-gen gaming experience.
"Micro-transactions, subscriptions, and other biz models will be the next generation of games. It is that simple," Avalanche Studios founder and creative director Christofer Sundberg has said on Twitter.
In response to a question from Eurogamer, Sundberg said, “F2P has become a label for low quality unfortunately, but basically that’s where we’re heading.”
"There will be f-ups for sure," he added. "Hopefully we can lower the initial price point and build the game with the community instead."
Given his comments, it's curious to see what the studio plans to do with the upcoming Mad Max game, which will hopefully not be bogged down by microtransactions and subscription fees.
