NBA Live 14, the long-awaited return of EA’s basketball series, is not a good game. Poor animations, a difficult learning curve, and ugly player faces are just a few of the issues plaguing this sports title, and executive producer Sean O’Brien has come out with an open letter detailing what needs to be done to make things better.
“We hear loud and clear that some of you are disappointed in various aspects of NBA Live 14, and I’m sorry if the game doesn’t live up to your expectations. Looking at your feedback, we have laid out a plan to make NBA Live 14 a better game as quickly as we can,” the post reads.
“First, you’ve told us that the game is too hard to learn, and that the only way to figure it out is through frustrating trial-and-error. As a result, we are working on improving the way the game teaches the controls and on-boards new users. We realize that every single one of you is a new user and know we need to make the game easier to understand and simpler to pick up and play.”
The team won’t stop there, though. Twitch streams will be conducted to teach some key skills that the players can use to get better at the game. Producers will be on all week to answer questions about how to play the game, and the website currently has some helpful guides.
Even the visuals will be improved in the coming months. O’Brien admitted that gameplay came well before presentation during development, but now that the product has been shipped, he hopes to make every aspect look significantly better through patches. The game will continue to evolve, and while it’s not ideal that it launched this way in the first place, EA is at least doing right by its fans by fixing what needs to be fixed.
