Battlefield 4 Tank Guide

November 25, 2013 by Ryan Parreno

We taught you how to take one out, now learn how to use one.

Having trouble making your way with the tanks in Battlefield 4? We have a small guide on how to improve your play.

Get the flags. Particularly, the flags that give your commander the cruise missile or AC130. These weapons are a serious threat to your tank, even if they aren’t necessarily instant tank killers. On the flip side, taking controls of these flags will give your team the commanding lead, and almost ensures your success.

Be careful around flags that make infantry more powerful, powerful enough to take you on. These are flags with little space for your tank to move around in, like parking garages, and also with hiding spots for infantry that can’t be destroyed. These are not to be avoided completely, but you have to be on your guard approaching them.

The flip side is some flags you can take by just running over the location. You can essentially demolish some buildings as if you were a bulldozer, so you’ll want to do that if you can.

When you’re not shooting at anyone, stay in 3rd person view. It’s vital to know your surroundings, particularly keeping check on tight corners and walls you can run over.

When you hear the words “Enemy Missile Incoming”, a good commander will send an evac order and tell you where it will land. Otherwise, look around you for obvious tells. If your teammates have huddled around you, or you have stayed in one spot too long, it’s likely you’re sitting on the target spot, so get a move on.

You should take the time to figure out and study what areas the tank is most vulnerable. Angles matter now, so if you position yourself in a very steep angle from your opponent, the potential damage they can hit on you lowers a notch or three. Of course, you can get an idea reading our prior guide on how to take out a tank here.

Subsequently, you can maximize the potential damage your tank makes if you can align it as close to a 90 degree angle as possible. This is so much damage that it’s worth taking that one hit.

If you’re using IR, aka smoke, to break line of sight, remember that it stays in place. Too many tank players use IR to avoid lock ons, and then leave their position to get locked on again.

You’ll want to master driving. Master driving backwards so much that you don’t have to think about it, and driving with use of the minimap.

HMG on secondary is what will take out infantry. Save your main turret for bigger targets.
