Blizzard wants to close the gaps between the releases of World of Wacraft expansions with continued development of new add-on content.
When speaking with Polygon, co-founder and president of Blizzard, Mike Morhaime, explained the importance of frequently releasing new content to keep players entertained. Even after the announcement of the new expansion, Warlords of Draenor, Blizzard already started development on the new, unannounced add-on.
"We recognize that we need to release them on a faster cadence than we have in the past. So we're investing in the team and our resources to enable us to do that." Morhaime said in regard to the expansion releases.
Simultaneously developing expansions represents something Blizzard never planned to ever accommodate. The development team behind World of Warcraft always completed an expansion before moving onto something new. "We've already started working on the expansion after this one [Warlords of Draenor]. We've never done that in the past," added Morhaime.
Blizzard announced the Warlords of Draenor expansion last week at the Blizzcon event. The new expansion increases the level cap to 100 and lets players fast track a new character to level 90.
