Killzone games haven’t exactly been characterized by deep, winding narratives. Most of the stories thought up by Guerrilla Games are middling at best, and it’s likely one of the key reasons that the general public hasn’t latched on to the franchise quite like a Halo or Gears of War. However, Shadow Fall is aiming to be different. The PlayStation 4 launch title is looking to add a bit more color and emotional backbone to the series, and this latest Oaths and Promises trailer details characters that are already infinitely more interesting than Rico.
This live-action short wants to know just what exactly you’ll sacrifice for peace, and surprisingly, it’s a pretty emotional affair for its short length. The acts of war are anything but glorified here, and while there’s no gameplay footage to be seen, the tone of the game that Sony has been trying to push comes out quite nicely.
It’s one of the biggest games of the year, and somehow, it’s just over a week away. Look to pick up Killzone: Shadow Fall on PS4 Nov. 15.
