The Jagged Alliance series has remained long dormant since the release of Wildfire, an official modification that brought harder challenges and a host of new weapons and items into Jagged Alliance 2.
Since then, rumors of a Jagged Alliance 3 have cropped up from time to time, to no avail. Until now, that is.
Developers at bitComposer have announced Jagged Alliance: Back in Action, a full remake of Jagged Alliance 2 and all of its expansions in an all new graphical engine.
In a newly released developer diary, the developer explains what a 3D overhaul will do for the game:
“In Jagged Alliance: Back in Action, the game world will be represented entirely in 3D. The aim is to achieve a plastic, multi-layered and realistic look. First, the level designers model and texture the terrain and use an array of tools to raise or lower the ground surface to create a dune in a desert landscape or a river bed. The ground surface is then textured and is built up using several texture layers.”
The German-based bitComposer is focused on bringing Jagged Alliance 2 to a modern audience with its new 3D engine, while retaining the game's original gameplay, storyline and characters.
Jagged Alliance: Back in Action is set for a late 2011 release on the PC.
