Konami’s UK blog has finally lifted the heavy veil covering Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes, revealing the release date window, as well as additional details in terms of game mechanics.
The game has built from the ground up with Kojima Productions’ FOX Engine, which we have previously seen at work in the next PES 2014, as well as the somewhat infamous previews for Quiet. FOX Engine has been designed for 8th generation consoles, so expect it to look at its best on the Playstation 4 and Xbox One.
Ground Zeroes will have different weather settings, serving as both a showcase of the FOX Engine’s abilities, as well as a test of your gaming skills. Contrary to expectations, bad weather works to your advantage as strategic cover. You can also go out at night and sneak around stealthily like other latex-clad videogame protagonists.
As we already know, Ground Zeroes will be the first truly open world MGS title, allowing players to choose how they finish their missions. Konami boasts the contradictory term ‘unrestricted stealth’, which seems to refer to open ended gameplay. You can sneak around like a snake or charge towards enemies like a wild fox.
Finally, the game will have a completely redesigned interface, perhaps to drive the point home that this aint your parent’s elder brother’s MGS. Based on these new reveals, this shakeup may be the best thing to ever happen to Metal Gear, or a serious misstep. Let’s hope it’s the former. MGS 5: Ground Zeroes will be released Spring 2014 for the Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Xbox One and Xbox 360.
