We have a new batch of pictures for Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy 13, previewing the Dead Dunes as Lightning goes there to find and reunite with Oerba Yun Fang.
Fang of the Yun clan, from the village of Oerba, is a tall, imposing I’Cie with a lot in common with Lightning. Both are confident, stubborn, sharp tongued, and very, very sure of themselves.
In Final Fantasy 13, Fang was closely connected to Vanille. With the help of Lightning’s party, she rescues Vanille from PSICOM, and themselves become involved in Lightning’s quest. At the end of it all, Fang and Vanille sacrifice themselves by surrounding Cocoon with a pillar of lava, and then summoning the crystal dust of Oerba to crystallize the city, along with the lava and themselves.
In Lightning Returns, a few years have passed since Fang and Vanille awoke from that millennia old crystal stasis. Both became members of a religious group called the order and eventually separated. Vanille is venerated as a saint in Luxerion because she can hear the voices of the dead, but Fang distrusts the people in Luxerion, suspecting they might be pawns in the machinations of the gods again.
When Lightning finds Fang, she is a vagabond, the head of a band of thieves called Monoculus. She hides in the desolate, yet beautiful Dead Dunes, where she roams the long-abandoned ruins for treasure. She has also been keeping track of Lightning’s activity since the Savior woke up.
As you can see in these screenshots, you will get to team up with Fang again as well, with all the treasure hunting and fighting and Fang wielding her familiar Bladed Lance. Doesn't it look fun?
Lightning Returns will be released February 11 on Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.
