Following the popularity of their NES video game inspired Jason and Freddy action figures, NECA brings it up a notch with a new Robocop figure. Once again, this incarnation of Robocop is based on the NES video game, made by Nihon Bussan and Data East and released in 1989 by Ocean Software.
Whereas the Freddy and Jason figures emulated the NES’ perplexing color scheme choices, the Robocop figure looks more 8-bit than ever before, copying the detailed, but grainy textures that you saw in the video game. In keeping with the series, the figure box emulates the appearance of the original NES Game Pak containers. This figure also boasts his trademark gun, which can be removed from its holster, but don’t hold your breath that you can take his helmet off. No word so far if NECA has also added his perplexingly slow, powerful, two inch punch from Ocean’s overly difficult game, but you can recreate that yourself if it comes down to it.
The figure will have only one production run and is scheduled for release in February 2014. In the meantime, check out these pictures!
