Grand Theft Auto V Breaks GTA Debut Records in Japan

October 20, 2013 by Yesika Reyes

Grand Theft Auto V beats Grand Theft Auto: Vice City’s as the GTA game with best debut records in Japan.

Grand Theft Auto V was recently released in Japan last week. It sold 360,115 copies for the PlayStation, while the Xbox 360 version sold 26,612 copies in its first week.

Media Create, a Japanese sales tracker, reports that GTA V sold through more than 80% of its shipment on the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360.

Silicon Era reports that the last game in the franchise with the highest debut sales was Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. The game sold over 246,000 copies at launch on the PlayStation 2 when it came out in 2004.

It is worth noting that GTA V broke records as it made over USD $1 billion dollars in three days.

Grand Theft Auto V was released for the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360. The next-generation and PC versions remain unannounced.
