Easily one of the most anticipated video game titles set to launch in 2020 is CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077. The development team that brought out the popular trilogy, The Witcher, is bringing out their next big open-world RPG experience. Cyberpunk 2077 has plenty of hype building behind it, but if you were hoping for a multiplayer experience right out of the gate with the upcoming title then you’re going to be disappointed.
There’s a ton of work that is going into Cyberpunk 2077, the video game has been in development for years, but that isn’t stopping fans hoping to get even more added in. One of those elements was a multiplayer component that was originally uncertain if it would even see a launch for the upcoming title. Now that some time has passed, it has been confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 would see some type of multiplayer element to the game but don’t expect is to release upon its initial launch.
VGC spoke with Max Pears, a level designer for the CD Projekt Red development studio, who has stated that the multiplayer aspect of the game is still going through its R&D process. The development studio doesn’t want to add anything into the game that doesn’t completely jive with the overall content being developed in the single-player game. Now that fans who are eager to get their hands on the game will have even more to look forward to post-launch.
While Max Pears wouldn’t give any of the specifics on what players could expect, the developer did reveal that the studio is still actively hiring individuals who can make a solid multiplayer experience. What are you personally hoping for when it comes to a multiplayer mode in Cyberpunk 2077? Right now, we’ll have to wait and find out what’s being planned, but we can mark our 2020 calendars for the single-player campaign. Cyberpunk 2077 is set to launch on April 16, 2020, for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC platforms with Google Stadia owners receiving the game at a later date.
