Gears Tactics is an upcoming installment to the Gears of War franchise but as a turn-based strategy game. The title was introduced to the world during E3 2018 alongside two other Gears video games which were Gears Pop and Gears 5. With this installment, The Coalition showcased the title as a PC video game which may have left some wondering if Gears Tactics would see a release on the Xbox platform. After a fan reached out to Rod Fergusson, a game producer and head of The Coalition, it was confirmed that the game would see a launch into the Xbox ecosystem.
Not only did Rod Fergusson confirmed that Gears Tactics will release outside of the PC platform, but it was also noted that the game itself was being developed by Splash Damage, a studio that had previously helped with Gears of War 4 and Gears of War: Ultimate Edition. While the video game may offer a different genre to the Gears franchise, it’s still connected to the same canon. It’s been confirmed that the game will be taking place over a decade before the events of Gears of War and will be centered on a new squad.
One interesting element to Rod Fergusson’s comment is that he did not specify that the game would see a release on the Xbox One. Now the fan who tweeted out also didn’t specify the Xbox One platform but instead simply asked if the game would release on Xbox. This could just be just acknowledgment towards an Xbox One release, others may see that this is being referred towards the next console iteration from Microsoft which is known just as Project Scarlett. At any rate, we don’t know just when the video game is set to release other than a generic 2019 intended launch window.
