Nintendo has confirmed that a new console will be revealed at E3 2011 and is being prepared to release in 2012. At an investor keynote, Nintendo said,
Nintendo has decided to launch in 2012 a system to succeed Wii, which the company has sold 86 million units on a consolidated shipment basis between its launch in 2006 and the end of March 2011.
We will show a playable model of the new system and announce more specifications at the E3 Expo, which will be held June 7-9, 2011 in LA.
Earlier rumors and speculation have revealed some interesting info regarding the tech specs,
- The system is expected to outperform the PlayStation 3's 7800GTX and its CPU is said to be similar to the triple-core IBM PowerPC chipset while sporting a higher clockspeed.
- The new system will output 1080p with a possibility for stereoscopic 3D support.
- The report also claims that the console will be roughly the same size as the original Xbox 360 and resemble the classic SNES form.
