From Software has confirmed straight out of Tokyo Game Show that there will be two special editions for Dark Souls 2: the Collector’s Edition and the Limited Black Armour Pre-Order Edition, both of which will be available for all platforms. The game is coming March 14 next year for Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, with the PC version coming soon thereafter.
The Dark Souls 2 Limited Black Armour Pre-Order Edition comes with the game, a copy of the soundtrack composed by Motoi Sakuraba, and a metal case enclosing both discs.
The Dark Souls 2 Collector’s Edition will come with a 12 inch/ 30 cm Warrior Knight figurine, weighing roughly 16 ounces/ 450 grams, a hardbound coffeetable artbook with previously unseen images, an colored fabric map of the game world (exclusively available only on this edition), and everything mentioned above in the Limited Black Armour Pre-Order Edition.
It does not look like the Warrior Knight is customizable or poseable, but it is definitely a sweet topping to what is definitely the most plum package for hardcore Dark Souls fans. The figurine boasts a high degree of detail, and depicts the playable character, as you could customize him, brandishing two broadswords and primed for a fight.
For my money, however, the map made out of cloth and the coffeetable book are even better incentives to get the Collector’s Edition, being less frequent add ons to games. Funnily enough, the map is likely to actually be useful in-game, and will help you immerse in it even more. The book may not be for everyone, but with Dark Souls 2’s production values, it’s one to match some of Taschen’s premier work.
Some fans, of course, may be happy with just the soundtrack, or even just downloading the game, and that’s fine too. Which version of Dark Souls 2 are you planning to get?
