No Two NPCs Will Be Alike In Watch Dogs Legion

June 21, 2019 by Dennis Patrick

Don’t worry about running into two NPCs with the same voice or facial features.

When Ubisoft unveiled the next installment to the Watch Dogs franchise during their E3 2019 press conference briefing, it was unveiled to be quite ambitious. Players are no longer taking on the role of a particular individual. Instead, the game is focusing on a DedSec whole, a group of resistance fighters against an overbearing government. Set in London this time around, Watch Dogs Legion has players taking on an endless amount of protagonists, all of which are recruited by you the player.

There’s a massive map full of citizens you can recruit and just like before, you’ll be able to hack into their personal data in order to view just what skill sets they may have. If you need a particular individual that is great with drone hacking, finding the right person may mean searching the city for an NPC that has that skill set. It then becomes a quest to recruit that person into DedSec. From there you’ll be able to swap to that player from your roster.

However, it may be concerning for some when it was unveiled that you can recruit anyone. This could mean that there will be similar animations for actions taken in-game, but it appears that you won’t notice anything visually or vocally similar. Speaking to Edge Magazine, creative director Clint Hocking stated that the development team gathered up over twenty scripts and from there the voice actors who are filling in roles will be playing an assortment of characters.

Going even further, it looks like Ubisoft is using voice altering tech to further tweak the voices so it will be impossible to hear the same voice actor between two different characters. Likewise, with the development team working on the models, there are over a thousand different combinations for various heads so you likely won’t see any NPC walking around with the same model.

If you’re interested in Watch Dogs Legion, the game is expecting to release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC platforms, next year on March 6, 2020.
