George R.R. Martin “Consulted On a Video Game From Japan”; Rumors Flood the Internet

May 21, 2019 by Jordan Biazzo

What type of game are you hoping to see?

Famed book author and creator of the hit HBO show Game of Thrones, George R.R. Martin, has taken to his blog to talk about the finale of the beloved show as well as some other interesting projects he’s working on and it caught some of the gaming community’s eye.

Let’s go back a little bit earlier in the year when Spawn Wave posted a video stating that George R.R. Martin was working on a game with a Japanese developer. Not many of us took any note in the rumor, but it seems there was some truth to it.

In his latest blogpost, Martin states that he has been working on a ton of projects at HBO, Hulu, and much more; but he slips in that he has also “consulted a video game in Japan.”

And me?  I’m still here, and I’m still busy.    As a producer, I’ve got five shows in development at HBO (some having nothing whatsoever to do with the world of Westeros), two at Hulu, one on the History Channel.   I’m involved with a number of feature projects, some based upon my own stories and books, some on material created by others.

There are these short films I am hoping to make, adaptations of classic stories by one of the most brilliant, quirky, and original writers our genre has ever produced.   I’ve consulted on a video game out of Japan.   And then there’s Meow Wolf…

Now that’s pretty interesting to see Martin working on a game, no big deal though right? Wrong, a new source from Gematsu goes further into detail about the upcoming game, which is set to be announced at Microsoft’s E3 2019 press conference.

According to Gematsu’s source, the game is codenamed GR ( Great Rune) and has been in development for the past three years. It will act as a true successor to the Dark Souls series, but it will have more gameplay options; such as an open world, horseback riding, and multiple kingdoms to explore. None of this is concrete evidence, so take it with a grain of salt.

Still though, the idea of a new FromSoftware game collaborated with George R.R. Martin is one of the most amazing things I can think of. E3 2019 is a month away so we won’t have to wait too long to find out if this is true or not! L

et us know in the comments below if you’d like to see this come true!
